Deauville today

Deauville races again today, for the third in afternoon in succession, with another huge card (7 races in the morning and 5 in the afternoon) repeated from last week´s abandoned meeting. However the fields are much smaller this time, and there is only one German runner on the card, Man on Fire (Uwe Stoltefuss/ Dominique Boeuf), who faces a difficult task under top weight in a 1300 metres handicap at 15.40; German-bred Famous (Cedric Boutin/ Gaetan Masure) could be a big danger here. However the best German-bred running today is the tremendously-improved Japan (David Smaga/ Boeuf), who will be one of the favourites for the main event, a listed race for fillies and mares over 1500 metres at 13.35. Boeuf could also win on another German-bred Aleandros, who faces only modest opposition over 1300 metres at 14.10. Easily the most valuable race in France today is the Prix de la Cote d´Azur, the first race on the trotting card at Cagnes-sur-mer. The Deauville winter meeting ends tomo rrow, and the flat action switches to Cagnes next week, with the first flat racing of the season there on Monday.
