All-weather action today

Today´s all-weather action comes from Southwell and, with 4 class 6 races followed by 4 class 5, it is hardly an inspiring card. Only 5 are entered in the 2yo novice race at 15.10, which should in theory be a straightforward task for Sir Mark Prescott´s Kind Heart (Jean-Pierre Guillambert); she was runner-up on both her starts so far, both at Great Leighs, and receives 12 lbs from the main threat, Kevin Ryan´s Alexander Gulch (Chris Catlin). The most interesting runner at the meeting should be Alan Swinbank´s Shiwawa (Robert Winston), who makes his debut under rules in the 1 1/2 miles maiden race at 15.10. He is however far from a maiden, having won three bumpers in 2006 (all at odds-on) before this year running 3rd of 19 in a better class bumper at Sandown, and Swinbank has often introduced smart performers on the flat after starting them off in bumpers. Best of the opposition should be West with the Wind (Tom Tate/ Micky Fenton), who has not so far lived up to his pedigree - his dam is the German pattern race mare Midnight Angel- but he has at least been placed a few times and should be able to win a modest maiden at some stage.
