St.Leger at Doncaster

The St.Leger is the oldest classic race in the world and this year´s renewal has assembled a very strong field. Aidan O´Brien fields a big challenge with 5 runners, and stable jockey Johnny Murtagh (who has chosen wrong several times this season) has picked Irish Derby winner Frozen Fire. He has not run since that rather lucky win (when Alessandro Volta, another runner today with Jamie Spencer up, swerved away his own and several others´ chances in the final furlong) but should get the trip well enough, being by Montjeu out of German mare Flamingo Sea. Sir Michael Stoute´s stable jockey Ryan Moore has chosen Derby fourth Doctor Fremantle from the Stoute stable´s 3 runners, while Frankie Dettori has been booked for Conduit. However the two biggest dangers to the O´Brien dominance could be the two fillies in the field. Look Here (Ralph Beckett/ Eddie Ahern) has not been seen out since running out an easy winner of the Oaks 3 months ago. She was a long shot then but there was no fluke about her success. Tommy Stack´s Unsung Heroine (Wayne Lordan) is the only unbeaten horse in the field. She is taking a huge leap in class, but the way she won her last 2 races, she may well be up to it.
