This evening at Great Leighs and Yarmouth

More bad planning in Britain this evening, with meetings at Great Leighs (all-weather) and Yarmouth, only a few miles apart. Yarmouth has been severely criticised for its poor level of prize-money, and the 6 races on this evenings card are only worth about 20,000 euros between them. All the more surprising therefore that Sir Michael Stoute sends his well-bred 2yo Mirrored (240,000 guineas foal!) to run in the opening maiden at 19.20 CET with Kerrin McEvoy. The races at Great Leighs look much better, and here it is surprising to see Frankie Dettori riding Greek Renaissance for Godolphin in the 6 furlongs conditions race at 20.40. Frankie´s only mount of the evening, Greek Renaissane would win this on 2007 form, when he was a group winner, but was a disappointment on his only 2008 race. All-weather specialists Came Back (Kevin Ryan/ Fergal Lynch) and Ceremonial Jade (Marco Botti/ John Egan) will not make it easy for him. The mile handicap half an hour later looks very tricky. 8yo Binanti (Paul Chamings/ George Baker) has an excellent chance on his penultimate form, but the lightly-raced 3yo´sFr Dominic (Ralph Beckett/ Seb Sanders) and especially bottom-weight, Simon Callaghan´s High Standing, both look very dangerous. The latter will be ridden by Jamie Spencer, who has partnered him to all his 3 career victories so far.
