Killarney festival in Ireland

Today is the second day of the 4-day-July festival at Killarney, always one of the most enjoyable Irish meetings, even if not up to the standard of the big Galway fixture in a fortnight´s time. There are 3 N.H. and 4 flat races on this evenings card and the best bet over jumps could be Willie Mullins´ Uncle Junior (Ruby Walsh) in the novice chase over 2 3/4 miles at 20.00 CET; he was pulled up last time in a valuable race at Auetuil, but had not been disgraced in his previous runs at Cheltenham and Punchestown against much stronger opposition than he meets now. Only 4 turn out for the Killarney Race for 3yo´s over 11 furlongs at 20.30, which should go to Dermot Weld´s Theocritus (Pat Smullen). Ex-German Maximo has been very consistent without winning in Ireland, and can remedy that situation by taking the handicap over 8 1/2 furlongs at 21.30, while half an hour later Tuscan Evening (John Joseph Murphy/ Seamus Heffernan) looks a near certainty in the fillies maiden over the same trip; she was disqualified after finishing second in the Irish 1,000 Guineas in May, form which gives her about 30 lbs in hand of today´s opponents.
