Beverley, Musselburgh and Southwell

Once again, plenty of racing with some large fields, but mainly very poor quality on offer. Theoretically the bst race of the day is the class 3 handicap over 8 1/2 furlongs at Beverley at 16.50 CET, but there are onlY 5 runners here and this should go to top-weight Yes One (Kevin Ryan/ Daragh O´Donohoe), a very consistent performer. Also at Beverley, there are 17 runners in the 5 furlongs handicap at 16.20 and as usual, punters are advised to concentrate of those drawn on the inside (i.e. high numbers). David Nicholls´ pair Mr. Rooney (Adrian Nicholls) and Spirit of Coniston (Paul Quinn), Tim Easterby´s Royal Composer (Duran Fentiman) ands Bill Ratcliffe´s Colorus (Joe Fanning) are all drawn well and have obvious prospects. The most interesting runner at Musselburgh is Declan Carroll´s Proud Linus (David Allan), who is likely to start hot favourite for the 5 furlongs maiden at 16.10. His two starts last season ended in a fourth place in a listed race and last place (but not disgraced) in a Group One, and if he can reproduce that form he can hardly lose today. At Southwell today most of the runners are old acquaintances who are regulars here, with numerous CD winners entered. Probaably the most notable CD specialist is Dado Mush (T.T.Clement/ Kirsty Milczarek), who has won 5 races since December, all over this CD. Despite top weight he can take the mile handicap at 16.00, although he is now quite harshly treated at the weights - for example, he meets Jord (Alan McCabe/ Andrew Elliott) on 24 lbs worse terms than when beating him 5 lengths here in the winter.
