Mares in the Pipalong Stakes

Pontefract, Tuesday 11 July: Today`s six-race event at Pontefract will focus on the Pipalong Stakes (3rd race/16.20pm/50,000 pounds/1615m), which is reserved for mares.

A year after Thunder Beauty, trainer David O`Meara and jockey Daniel Tudhope are trying to follow up with Love Interest, but the mare, who has been inconspicuous so far this year, is only one of the outsiders. Purplepay (Tom Marquand) will receive more encouragement. The four-year-old, trained by William Haggas, ran at Group 1 level in Australia this year, but ended up unplaced. Last year she won the Prix de Sandringham (Group 2) in Chantilly. Fall In Love (Ray Dawson) competes under new management after an unsuccessful attempt in the Cape Verdi (Group 2). In the Prix de l`Opera she did respectably in the midfield against strong Group 1 mares. Al Agaila (James Doyle) won three races over the winter on the sand track. Dha Leath (P. McDonald) is recommended by her four wins last year. Espressoo (Joe Fanning) and Kingmania (Robert Havlin) are possibilities at any time.
