Trials Day at Ascot

Ascot, Wednesday, 3 May: On today`s Trials Day at Ascot, three trials at Group 3 or List level are on the programme.

In the Sagaro Stakes (4th race/16.15 pm/80,000 pounds/3210 m), a trail to the Gold Cup, there will be another duel between Rajinsky (Harry Davies) and Trueshan (Hollie Dolye), who fought out a List race in Nottingham on 12 April. Intervening could be Coltrane (Oisin Murphy), who took Trueshan to the brink of defeat in the Long Distance Cup (Group 2) here.

In the Commonwealth Cup Trial Stakes (5th race/16.50pm/£80,000/1210m), the three-year-olds are among themselves. Last year`s Breeders` Cup classic winner Mischief Magic (William Buick) is the horse to beat. Bradsell (Hollie Doyle), who gave a winning performance here in the Coventry Stakes (Group 2), comes into question as the main opponent. He sent Blackbeard, among others, to the losing line, who in turn had defeated Mischief Magic in the Middle Park Stakes (Group 1). Cold Case (Clifford Lee) won three of his six starts and is among the winningest in the field. Trillium (Pat Dobbs) and Desert Cop (Oisin Murphy) are other contenders accustomed to winning.

For the Queen Anne Stakes, the Bloodstock Paradise Stakes (6th race/5.25pm/60,000 pounds/1610m) rehearses six entrants. My Prospero (Tom Marquand), who finished third in the Champion Stakes (Group 1), should not let the butter be taken off his bread. Chindit (Pat Dobbs), who ran respectably against Baaeed several times last year, and Lusail (James Doyle) are equal opponents.
