Blue Point Sprint + UAE 2000 Guineas

Meydan, Friday, February 10: More big races will be run at the Dubai Racing Carnival at Meydan today.

The Blue Point Sprint (5th race/17.20/180,000 $/1000 m/Turf) recalls the top sprinter from Godolphin, who are once again the favourites. Lazuli (William Buick) and/or Man Of Promise (James Doyle) are expected to do it for the hosts. Both settled a Listed race between themselves here on 6 January, with Ponntos (Antonio Fresu) also cutting a strong figure not far from the runner-up, keeping Acklam Express (Rowan Scott) and Raasel (Daniel Tudhope) at bay. Khuzaam (Dane O`Neill) steps up from the break. The seven-year-old last ran in the Al Quoz Sprint (Group 1) and did not finish beyond midfield. The Watson protégé is regarded as a big opponent for the Godolphins.

It is over sand that the Group 3 UAE 2000 Guineas (6th race/17.55pm/150,000 $/1600m) will be decided. Unbeaten in two starts, Tiger Nation (Mickael Barzalona) is the benchmark but the immensely impressive Lahresh (Pat Dobbs) in the Maiden win will give the bin Ghadayer charge nothing. Tall Boy (William Buick) has been running in the US so far. Together with Mr Raj (Ray Dawnon), who stood above the opposition here on January 8, he forms the chasing pack.
