Farewell to Mishriff in the Breeders` Cup

Keeneland, Saturday, 5 November: The decisions in the Breeders` Cup are also in focus today on the track at Keeneland. From a European point of view, the Breeders` Cup Turf (10th race/21.40pm/4m US-$/2400m) deserves a special mention, as this is where Mishriff (Frankie Dettori) from the Gosden quarters makes his last start. The five-year-old will be competing against twelve rivals and is one of the close favourites. Most recently, he did not finish beyond the midfield in the `Arc de Triomphe`. The two Nations Pride (William Buick) and Rebel`s Romance (James Doyle), both prepared by Charlie Appleby for Godolphin, share the role of favourites. The latter won the Grand Prix of Berlin (Group 1) at Hoppegarten this year. Aidan O`Brien saddles Broome (Irad Ortiz jr.) and Stone Age (Ryan Moore), two chances that rank behind Mishriff on the betting market.

The royal blue colours of Godolphin are also dominant in the Breeders` Cup Mile (8th race/20.10pm/US$2m/1609m). Modern Games (William Buick) is seen as the winner. Last year`s Breeders` Cup Juvenile Turf (Group 1) triumphant and current runner-up in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Group 1) will be tested by the British-prepared Kinross (Frankie Dettori) and Dreamloper (Kieran Shoemark). Order Of Australia (Ryan Moore) won the `Mile` two years ago as a big outsider. In the Keeneland Turf Mile (Group 1) 13 months ago, the five-year-old disappointed when finishing last.

Twelve fillies will contest the Breeders` Cup Filly & Mare Turf (6th race/6.50pm/US$2m/1900m). Nashwa (Hollie Doyle) impressed in the Prix de Diane (Group 1) and most recently in the Prix de l`Opera (Group 1) when second to Above The Curve (John Velazquez) and Tuesday (Ryan Moore), who were not far behind the Gosden lady in third and sixth. The trio will have to be wary of In Italian (Joel Rosario), who had an easy win here in the dress rehearsal in the First Lady Stakes (Group 1).
