Cash vs. Dhabab at Kempton

Kempton, Monday 28 November: Nine races will be decided today on the all-weather track at Kempton. Highlighting the mammoth card is the Hyde Stakes (8th race/6.15pm/55,000 pounds/1609m). The Listed race for three-year-olds and older gives five horses the chance to compete in the All-Weather Championships at Newcastle on 7 April 2023.

In contention for victory is Dhabab (Adam Kirby) from the John and Thady Gosden quarters. The three-year-old bounced back with an impressive handicap win at Lingfield at the end of October after a break of more than a year, announcing himself for the big tasks ahead. A year ago he ran in the Dewhurst Stakes (Group 1) and finished fifth behind exceptional horses like Native Trail and Dubawi Legend. Cash (Jamie Spencer), whose six-month break ends today, is hardly rated worse. The stallion trained by David Simcock has made two starts so far. In the Classic Trial (Group 3) he brought none other than Westover, winner of the Irish Derby (Group 1) and sixth in the `Arc de Triomphe`, to the brink of defeat. Behind the two three-year-olds is expected Tinker Toy (Jack Mitchell), who won easily on his appearance in an `All-Weather` qualifier in March. The Wizard Of Eye (David Egan), like Ranes (Daniel Muscott) who won the sales class three weeks ago, is not beyond the outsider role.
