Sprint Cup at Haydock

Haydock, Saturday 3 September: A big crowd today in the Haydock Sprint Cup (5th race/16.30/350,000 pounds/1207m). Emerging in the 17-strong field is Emaraaty Ana (Andrea Atzeni), who pinned the fixture to his banner last year and finished a good third to Khaadem (Kieran Shoemark) in the Nunthorpe Stakes (Group 1) last time.

The match was won by Highfield Princess, who was followed by Minzaal (Jim Crowley) in the Prix Maurice de Gheest (Group 1). The Burrows charge won the Hackwood Stakes (Group 3) easily before that against Go Bears Go (Sean Levey), who scored a Group 3 in the Phoenix Sprint Stakes on 6 August. Naval Crown (William Buick) ran a strong second to Alcohol Free in the July Cup (Group 1). He was no match for Mizaal at Deauville and Rohaan (Hollie Doyle) also finished just ahead. Kinross (Frankie Dettori) won his first race of the season in the City of York Stakes (Group 2) and behind him Art Power (David Allan) held up very well in fourth. Brad The Brief (Cieren Fallon), unbeaten in two starts this year, and ex-series winner Harry Three (Adam Kirby) are not ruled out for the surprise.
