Mare Australis in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud

Saint-Cloud, Sunday, July 3: A quarter of an hour after the 153rd German Derby, the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud (5th race/16.00/400,000 euros/2400 m), which also belongs to Group 1, will be decided today. The yearling comparison between four- and five-year-old horses will take place with German participation thanks to Mare Australis (Olivier Peslier). Trained by Andre Fabre for Schlenderhan Stud, Mare Australis (Olivier Peslier) recently stepped up his game by winning the Grand Prix de Chantilly (Group 2) over Bubble Gift (Cristian Demuro), who followed two lengths behind, after twice finishing in the honored ranks at Longchamp. The performance of Alpinista (Luke Morris) from the stable of Sir Mark Prescott also has a German background. The English rider achieved her three most recent successes all in this country. Most recently, she ran in Munich and won the Grand Prix of Bavaria (Group 1). Charlie Appleby`s Hurricane Lane (William Buick) is likely to take favorite honors. Last year`s Arc-de-Triomphe bronze medalist made his seasonal debut in the Hardwicke Stakes (Group 2) and finished a convincing third. High Definition (Ryan Moore) also currently finished third in the Coronation Cup (Group 1). Prior to that, the O`Brien protégé battled to victory in the Tattersalls Gold Cup (Group 1). Sweet Lady (Ioritz Mendizabal) celebrated her last success here in the Prix Corrida (Group 2) and, like Alpinista, will enjoy a more favorable brand as a mare. Third Realm (David Egan) is recommended as winner of the Tapster Stakes (list race) over Lone Eagle (Silvestre de Sousa).
