Wetherby and Southwell

The best thing of the day is Devilment (John Ferguson/ AP McCoy) in the 4yo maiden hurdle that opens the card at Wetherby at 13.35 CET, but he is unlikely to be at a working man´s price. McCoy´s other booked ride, Richard Guest´s Montaff in the following handicap hurdle will be at much longer odds and could be a more interesting bet. With Sue Smith back in form, her Fill The Power (Dougie Costello) must have a chance in the handicap chase at 15.45, while the latest form of Ozzy Thomas (Henry Oliver/ Kieran Edgar) has been boosted since and a repetition would see him go close at 16.15. In the final handicap hurdle at 16.50 Frank N Fair (Zoe and Gemma Davison) can follow up her win at Bangor; that was a pretty awful race, but so is this.

Southwell stages 2 decent handicaps, over 5 furlongs at 15.30 and over 1 1/2 miles at 16.05. The former race should mainly concern the 3 recent winners and our preference is for Scarborough (Mike Appleby/ Luke Morris), penalised 6 lbs for a comfortable win over this CD last week.
