lady riders in action at Carlisle

low level action at today´s six meetings, two of them in Ireland - flat racing at Naas and an all-hurdles card at Cork. In the U.K. we have Ripon and Kempton (a.w.) this afternoon , and Windsor and Carlisle this evening.
The "best" race is the 6 furlongs handicap at 16.30 CET at Ripon, which looks quite competitive. Another Wise Kid (Paul Midgley/ Graham Lee) and My Name is Rio (Michael Dods/ Paul Mulrennan)) have been in good form this season, but are up in the weights as a result while Waffle (David Barron/Phillip Makin) has been given a chance by the handicapper and is now very leniently rated when compared to his smart form of 2012. However the selection has to be Out Do (David O´Meara/ Danny Tudhope), who does not win very often but has been running well in much better company.
At Kempton we give German-bred Nova Princesse (Marco Botti/ Luke Morris) an each-way chance in the fillies handicap at 18.15, and another German-bred who could run into a place at a big price is Annakrista (Mervyn Torrens/ Mark Darcy) in the handicap hurdle at 16.50 at Cork.
This evening´s card at Carlisle is of interest, as all 7 races are restricted to Lady Jockeys; the first race is a Fegentri race, in which German representative Michelle Blumenauer has a chance on top weight Remix (Ian Williams), while the other 6 races are for professionals and amateurs. We think this is a great idea, but as so often the races themselves are very weak, and the ladies surely deserve being given some decent horses to ride. The only event better than class 5 is the class 4 handicap over a mile at 21.15, which might be won by Hayley Turner on Michael Herrington´s Kuwait Star, who has won his last 2 races including this CD and is up in grade now.
