there are no fewer than 8 meetings today and once again Ireland marches to the rescue with a group race this evening at Leopardstown. This is the Ballyroan Stakes over 1 1/2 miles at 20.30 CET and even with only 5 runners this looks quite open. We fancy the 2 3yo´s here, especially the filly Roheryn (Ger Lyons/ Colin Keane), in receipt of a stone from the older horses and a late withdrawal from a race at Cork on Tuesday. Streetcar to Stars (John Oxx/ Declan McDonogh) is taking a leap in class here, but is a well-bred son of Sea The Stars and so not out of it. Chance to Dance (Jim Bolger/ Kevin Manning) could be the best of the older horses, but is unproven at this trip. The other two are trained by Aidan O´Brien who has put his son Joseph on Eye of the Storm and his daughter Anastasia on El Salvador. O´Brien certainly believes in supporting his children, as El Salvador has been ridden by four of them already this year; he is consistent enough, but this trip is probably his minimum. Another O´Brien daughter Sarah rides A Greater Force in the QR race at 21.10, but may be upstaged by another father-daughter partnership, Ted and Katie Walsh´s King Schultz.
The U.K. cards are dominated again by handicaps, and once again the best race today comes from Brighton. The Chalenge Cup over 1 1/2 mles at 16,50 is the most valuable race by far and Looks very competitive. Mark Johnston´s Notarised (Silvestre de Sousa), the only 3yo in the field, was beaten a neck at Chrester last Saturday and may go one better here under bottom weight.
