Pontefract is the main track today and has the only black type race of the day - the listed Pipalong Stakes for older fillies and mares over a mile at 17.00. Just top-rated here is Dutch Rose (David O´Meara/ Danny Tudhope), but we are not convinced, as she was well beaten in this last year. We prefer Pavlosk (Sir Michael Stoute/ James Doyle) and Masarah (Clive Brittain/ Silvestre de Sousa), who have both been running - without much success- in group races. Butterfly McQueen (Andrew Balding/ David Probert), owned by ex-ManU manager Sir Alex Ferguson, also comes into the equation, but on the whole we go for Masarah at the likely prices. The 6 furlongs handicap here half an hour later is the most interesting betting race of the day. Boy in the Bar (David Barron/ Robert Winston) is the only 3yo in the field and has an obvious chance, having already won twice this year over this CD, but he is meeting better opposition now, and our preference is for the two older CD specialists Dark Castle (Micky Hammond/ Peter McDonald), who won this last year, and Misplaced Fortune (Nigel Tinkler/ de Sousa), who has an excellent record here.
