Royal Ascot: day two: Prince of Wales´s Stakes

another very high class card at Royal Ascot, with the Prince of Wales´s Stakes over ten furlongs at 16.45 CET the main feature. This is always won by a top performer and today´s field is graced by the presence of the highest-rated horse in the world, Treve (Criquette Head/ Frankie Dettori). The Arc winner went down to tjhe first defeat of her career when narrowly run out of it by Cirrus des Aigles at Longchamp at the end of April, but there was no disgrace in that, and she will be a very hot favourite today. She has plenty in hand on official ratings and is clearly the one to beat. However there are two factors that could be to her disadvantage - the distance is probably short of her best and the going will be much faster than anything she has encountered before. Her trainer is confident tnat there will no problems today, but at the likely odds she does not appeal as a good bet.
The opposition includes Mukhadram (William Haggas/ Paul Hanagan) and The Fugue (John Gosden/ William Buick), second and third last year - but there was no Treve in the field then. The former is accompanied by Elkaayed (Roger Varian/ Dane O´Neill) who will presumably act as pacemaker in the owner´s second colours and set a furious pace. However this will not only help Mukhadram, but also the favourite - and also Magician (Aidan and Joseph O´Brien) who will find conditions exactly to his liking. Although his latest form is not so convincing,. We have not forgotten the way he quickened off a strong pace in the Breeders Cup Turf to reel in The Fugue. He is our each-way selection.
