listed race at Nottingham

Nottingham is one of the fairest tracks in the country and always attracts runners from the top stables; that is also the case today when the listed race over 1 3/4 miles at 17.10 CET is the main event. The two likeliest canditates, and the most certain stayers, are Biographer (David Lanigan/ Ted Durcan) and High Jinx (James Fanshawe/ Ryan Moore). They met at Ascot in October when Biographer finished well in front of his rival (though well beaten) and we expect that to happen again, especially as conditions suit him ideally, while High Jinx probably needs even further. The two lightly-raced 4yo´s Flying Officer (John Gosden/ William Buick) and Mighty Yar (Lady Cecil/ Jamie Spencer) are obvious dangers, but they both have to prove that they stay this distance. Pearl Secret (David Barron/ Spencer) has an outstanding chance in the 5 furlongs conditions race at 16.40; he has some very smart form in 2012, but only ran once last year, when third in the King´s Stand and a repeat of that form would make him almost unbeatable in this company. The future will probably show that there some decent performers running in the two 3yo maidens that open the card. Stampede (Sir Michael Stoute/ Moore), although he finished last on his only start, is expected to run well in the second division at 15.40, but from the German point of view Fast Delivery (Saeed bin Suroor/ Silvestre de Sousa) half an hour earlier is the most interesting runner; he is out of Preis der Diana winner Rosenreihe.
The two all-weather meetings are of little interest. while Catterick might grab some headlines because of the huge jackpot on offer, but is otherwise a poor card; however we would remind our readers that 11yo Patavium (Edwin Tuer/ James Sullivan) did us a favour when winning here over hurdles a month ago, and is now very nicely handicapped on his return to the flat at 16.20 on a course where he has always run his best races.
The only jumps racing comes from Ireland; there are some huge fields at Limerick., but mainly at a low level. Ludo et Emergo (A Lee/ Davy Russell) was contesting the lead when falling at the last over this CD last time and might gain recompense in the beginners chase at 16.45.
