3 poor meetings today

the only flat racing today is on the all-weather at Southwell, and frankly we would give this meeting a miss. The fields are small and uincompetiive and very low quality..The most interesting runner is Stand Guard (John Butler/ Tom Queally), going for a record 27th win on the alll-weather in the claimer at 15.20, but in view of the controversy regarding his most recent runs, this race should also be avoided. The best racing is at the N.H. meeting at Kempton, and Nicky Henderson and Barry Geraghty, who have an amazing strike rate here, once again look the team to follow. They have winning chances at 16.50 with Act Alone and with Cocktails at Dawn at 17.50, and Miss Ballantyne is also not out of it at 17.20, altjhough here we prefer Paul Nicholls´s topweight Merrion Square, who has fallen the last twice; if he stays on his feet, he can score here. Geraghty can also win the first two races on Charlie Mann´s Sands Cove at 15.10 and Donald McCain´s Desoto County half an hour later.

Sue Gardner always does well at her local track Exeter and has several good chances today. Storm Alert at 15.30 and Rafafie at 16.35, both partnered by daughter Lucy, should go well, as can Miss Saffron (Paul Moloney) in the marathon handicap chase at 16.00.
