Sommerabend at Meydan today

the Dubai Carnival goes into its third week today with another strong card. There are only two German-trained horses out in Dubai at the moment, and one of them Miroslav Rulec´s Sommerabend makes his debut there today in the mile handicap at 16.40 CET. He has top weight in a field of 16 but has earned it with a strong of high class performances over this trip, including a narrow win a a listed race at Deauville beflore Christmas, which showed that he can act on an artificial surface. We hope he runs well today, although the draw is a problem; however his jockey Adrie de Vries is very experienced and has a good record here.
Main feature today is the Group Two Al Fahidi Fort over 7 furlongs at 17.50 with a very strong field, including South African champion Heavy Metal (S Tarry/ Johnny Geroudis), who has not run since winning the Durban July. It is impossible to work out the value of that form exactly, but if he runs up it, he must have a good chance here.
All the races here look very competitive and winners arre hard to find, but we have a sneaking fancy for Arnold Lane (Mick Channon/ Willie Twiston-Davies) in the opening 6 furlongs handicap at 15.30; we have not forgotten the way he won at Munich last May, and he is better than a handicapper (so, unfortunately, are most of the others!)

Betting forecast:

2. Race: Restraint Of Trade - Genius Beast - Dormello
3. Race: Sommerabend - Bertiewhittle - Free Wheeling
4. Race: Daddy Long Legs - Windhoek - Zip Top
