Kelso and Warwick

The U.K. cards today cannot be compared to the high class racing on offer in Ireland, but both Kelso and Warwick have a couple of decent handicaps with (we hope) some good betting opportunities. Our choice in the 4 mile chase at 14.55 CET at Kelso is Bescott Springs (Lucinda Russell/ Craig Nicol), who has never run over this trip before - nor have most of the others- and has not won for 2 years but looks nicely handicapped. Half an hour later they race over a mile less and German-bred Kruzhlinin (Donald McCain/ Jason Maguire) can defy top weight. He is unbeaten here and won over this CD in nice style 6 weeks ago; the Sholokov gelding has gone up 8 lbs but the main danger Night Alliance (Richard Newland/ Sam Twiston-Davies) has been put up 17 lbs for his last two wins and is facing better opposition now.

At Warwick, our old friend Fredo (Ian Williams/ Robert McCarth) runs in the long distance chase at 15.40; the son of Lomitas is also on a long losing run but is down in grade and is very nicely handicapped. He has been running in much better company and if anywhere hear his old best form would have a great chance here. The handicap hurdle half an hour later is another open race, but Mini Muck (Nigel Twiston-Davies/ Ryan Hatch) won well at Ludlow on Thursday and if she turns out again can win under the fixed 7 lbs penalty, most of which is negated by the good claimer´s allowance. Veteran Tisfreetdream (Paul Pritchard/ Jack Doyle) also ran well last week and could be the danger.
