Listed race at Pontefract

The best race today is the listed mile race for 2yo´s at 16.40 CET at Pontefract. None of the 6 runners looks a potential star, but Bow Creek (Mark Johnston/ Joe Fanning), Day of Conquest (Richard Hannon/ Pat Dobbs) and Safety Check (Charlie Appleby/ Mickael Barzalona) have all won twice, though not at this level, and one of them will probably win today. We give slight peference to the Godolphin runner, whose form reads best.

The 5 furlongs handicap here at 16.10 looks competitive and veteran Oldjoesaid must have a chance after winning over this CD last time, but we prefer Cheveton (Richard Price/ Louis Steward), penalised 6 lbs for winning at Nottingham last week, who is also a CD winner and will love the heavy ground. It will also be heavy at Windsor, where we hope that Solemn (Milton Bradley/ Adam Kirby) can finally come good in the 5 furlongs handicap at 18.00; he is not as good as his half-brothers Penitent and Supplicant but has been dropped in the weights and is down in grade here. Ex-German Collodi (Roger and Ned Curtis) has top weight in the mile handicap at 17.00. We are not sure that he will go on the ground, and has run badly on his two British starts, but he is very well handicapped in his German form.

Another ex-Peter Schiergen runner is Cabimas (Gary and Joshua Moore) who runs over hurdles at 17.20 at Plumpton. Again we are not so sure about the going and also the distance - much further than anything he has tried before- but he might just run a good race at a big price.
