The Lowther Stakes, a Group Two for 2yo fillies over 6 furlongs at 15.30 CET is the main supporting feature at York today, and the logical winner has to be Lucky Kristale (George Margarson/ Tom Queally), who won the Cherry Hinton at Newmarket´s July meeting. However she has a 3 lbs penalty for that success, and the unbeaten J Wonder (Brian Meehan/ Martin Lane) and especially Wind Fire (David Brown/ Jamie Spencer) will not be easily brushed aside with this weight concession in their favour.
The listed Galtres Stakes for fillies at 17.20 is over the same distance as the Yorkshire Oaks and we expoecxt Aidan O´Brien and Ryan Moore to take this as well as the Group One with Say, who is top-rated here and has been running in better company. William Haggas usually does well at this meeting and has two irons in the fire here with Lady Nouf (Andreas Atzeni) and lightly-raced Our Obsession (Frankie Dettori), but we think the main danger could be another very lightly-raced filly in Songbird (Lady Cecil/ Queally).
The sales race for 2yo´s over 6 furlongs that opens the card at 14.55 is the second most valuable race of the day, and with decent prize-money going down to tenth place, they will certainly all be trying. Most of the runners seem better at 5 furlongs, but our choice Nezar (Haggas/ William Buick) was just beaten over 7 last time, so is certain to get the trip; Sleeper King (Kevin Ryan/ Phillip Makin) and Rufford (Richard Fahey/ Paul Hanagan) could be the dangers in a very tricky event.
Even trickier are of course the two handicaps. Our 3 against the field at 16.05 over a mile are CD specialist Navajo Chief (Alan Jarvis/ Michael Murphy), Sandagiyr (Saeed bin Suroor/ Silvestre de Sousa) and Windhoek (Mark Johnston/ Joe Fanning), and over 7 furlongs at 17.55 last year´s winner Dutch Rose (David O´Meara/ Kieren Fallon), Malekat Jamal (David Slimcock/ Darren Egan) and Ghasabah (Haggas/ Hanagan).
