5 poor meetings today

there are some big fields at the Irish N.H. meeting at Thurles today, but only 5 runners in the main event, a listed chase over 2 3/4 miles at 14.25 CET. Only two of them have a serious chance, the top-weights Bostons Angel (Jessica Harrington/ Robbie Power) and Roi du Mee (Gordon Elliott/ Davy Russell). Roi du Mee made all to win at Punchestown recently, and with his stable in top form, he gets the vote, although obviously Bostons Angel would be a big danger if back to the form which saw him win the RSA Chase at Cheltenham in March of last year; however he has been rather disappointing since.
In the U.K. there is jumps racing at Towcester and Musselburgh, and flat racing on the all-weather at Lingfield this afternoon and Wolverhampton this evening, but all at a low level. At Towcester the mares maiden hurdle at 14.20 is possibly the most interesting race, with useful bumper performers Springinherstep (Nicky Hemderson/ Tony McCoy) and Umadachar (Warren Greatrex/ Noel Fehily) in opposition. Both are expected to make the grade over sticks and one of them will no doubt win today.
Best race at Musselburgh is the 3 mile handicap hurdle at 16.00. Bottom-weight Purcell´s Bridge (Rose Dobbin/ Keith Renwick) was a very easy winner at Wetherby last week, and as he has no penalty, should go in again, although the opposition is stronger this time; Monetary Fund (Venetia Williams/ Aidan Coleman) has been runner-up the last twice and may have to settle for that role again.
Kevin Ryan sends 3 horses on the long journey from North Yorkshire to Lingfield, all partnered by daughter Amy, and they should all run well. We are especially interested in the prospects of 9yo Advanced in the 7 furlongs handicap at 15.40; he has been running in much better races and has come down a lot in the weights; his recent form is not inspiring, but perhaps a visit to leafy Lingfield and his first experience of the polytrack here may revitalise him. Hopes N Dreams, who ran well at Wolverhampton last time, can possibly complete a family double half an hour later.
At Wolverhampton this evening, we like Noverre to Go (Ron Harris/ Luke Morris) in the 6 furlongs claimer at 18.20.
