3 meetings today

there is no racing in Ireland today and in the U.K. we have flat racing at Pontefract and Carlisle and jumping from Stratford.
The best event is the listed Pomfret Stakes over a mile at 16.50 CET at Pontefract. Set the Trend (David O´Meara/ Danny Tudhope) is top-rated here. Previously trained by Andrew Balding he had some smart form at this distance, including a second place in the Celebration Mile at Goodwood. He came back after a long break to run 6th at Ascot last week, so the bounce factor could be a problem. Balding himself sends Highland Knight, but of the older horses we rate more highly Prince of Johanne (Tom Tate/ John Fahy) is a top handicapper, winner of the Royal Hunt Cup recently and last year of the Cambridgeshire, and looks well up to normal listed standard. The 3yo´s look very strong here. Matrk Johnston- who had winners in 4 different tracks yesterday, runs Bannock (Franny Norton), who has been kept very busy. He has not won in 8 starts this year, but won 3 races at two, and with the stable form must be taken seriously. Riugged Cross (Henry Candy/ Fergus Sweeney), much more lightly r aced, last ran in the Derby! Obviously he had no chance there, and this distance is probably much more suitable. The filly Ladys First (Richard Fahey/ Pat Mathers) gets all the allowances and is also in with a chance. The z6 furllongs hamndovap here half an hour later looks wide lopen with 1z6 runnetrs. We hesitatingly select the only 3yo in the field Byronic Hero (Jedd O´Keeffe/ Topny Hamilton), whose only two career wins have come at this CD,
The Carlisle card is very poor and the best event here is a handicap over 1 1/2 miles at 16.40. Once again we go for the only 3yo in the field Star Date (Ger Butler/ Luke Harris), a son of Galileo. The main dangers are Dark Dune (Tim Easterby/ David Allan), from another stable in red-hot form, and New Hampshire (Tony Coyle/ Lee Topliss), who is in good form but moving up in trip.
The N.H. card at Stratford is of little interest, although we are curious to see how the one-time German classic winner Aviso (David Evans/ Aidan Coleman) gets on in the novices handicap chase at 18.00. He has won 4 races this year, two on the flat and two over hurdles, which he jumps very well, but this his his first try in this sphere.
