Exeter (N.H.) and Yarmouth hae both passed early morning inspections, so all 6 meetings in the U.K. and Ireland go ahead, although the going will be very soft/ heavy at the turf fixtures. However the quality is very poor throughout and betting opportunities are rare.
Over jumps, we think that Royal Riviera (Nigel and Sam Twiston-Davies) has a chance of defeating hot favourite Diamonds Return (David Pipe/ Conor O´Farrell), going for a quick hat-trick, in the opening handicap hurdle at 15.20 CET, while Egretta Island (Warren Greatrex/ Wayne Hutchinson) and South Stack (Kim Bailey/ Charles Greene), both easy winners a week ago at Towcester, can follow up at 17.20 and 17.50 respectively. At Sedgefield this evening we expect top-weights Spear Thistle (Jim Best/ Tom Scudamore) at 19.45 and The Thirsty Bricky (David Thompson/ Tony Kelly) half an hour later, both of whom act well in the conditions, to run well. At the Irish N.H. meeting this evening at Ballinrobe, the most interesting race could be the bumper at 21.25; in theory well-bred Dancers Dilemma (Dermot Weld/ Robbie McNamara), having run well on both starts with a large interval in between, should win this, but in-form Willie Mullins, always to be feared in such events, introduces an in teresting newcomer in Wrong Way Corrigan, so be warned!
The only flat racing on turf is at Yarmouth but bets should be kept to a minimum on this very testing ground. Triple Charm (Jeremy Noseda/ Jamie Spencer) has won 3 of her last 4 races an can score again in the 7 furlongs handicap at 16.40. As a daughter of Pivotal, ahe should handle the ground. Top-weight Al Khaleej (David Simcock/ Martin Lane) has not run for 6 months, but is dropping in grade and could be the danger.
