Rest of U.K. and Irish racing

The other cards are dominated by handicaps, but there is an interesting Group Three for fillies over 9 1 /2 furlongs at 16.30 CET at Gowran Park in Ireland. Here we like best two very lightly-raced 3yo fillies who have not run since May - Handassa (Kevin Prendergast/ Daclan McDonough) and Zaminast (Dermot Weld/ Pat Smullen), one of 3 runners from the Weld stable. The 5 furlongs handicap at 16.20 at Haydock could go for the second year running to Cheveton (Richard Price/ Dale Swift), who won at Ayr last week; he brought off the same double in 2010. The stayers handicap here at 16.55 could go to Motivado, an easy winner over CD last time, but up 9 lbs in the weights. A sprint handicap with runners from the big Ayr meeting is also the main feature at Ripon, this time over 6 furlongs at 17.15. CD specialist Pepper Lane (David O´Meara/ David Nolan) has topweight here, but we are not sure that he can concede the pounds to Advanced (Kevin and Amy Ryan), 3rd in the Ayr Silver Cup, or Tajneed (David Nicholls/ Matt O´Connell), 9th in the Gold Cup. The 10 furlongs handicap for 3yo´s at 17.10 at Chester looks very tricky. We do not like betting horses racing out of the handicap, but bottom weight Spanish Plume (Reg Hollinshead/ Jamie Mackay), who showed improvement to win over this CD a fortnight ago, could well spring a surprise here. Finally, we hope that the German-breds Noble Alan (Nicky Richards/ Brian Harding) and Ostland (Charlie Longdon/ Felix de Giles) run well in the listed handicap chase over 2 3/4 miles at 15.50 at Market Rasen.
