Classic trials at Saint-Cloud

The classic trials at Saint-Cloud this afternoon look far more interesting than the equivalent races at Lingfield and several plausible classic winners will be putting their credentials on the line. The most fascinating runner is Galinova (Freddie Head/ Olivier Peslier), a half-sister by Galileo to the great Goldikova, who runs in the Prix Cleopatre for fillies at 17.35 CET. She won well last time and would not need to be as good as her illustrious sister to score again here. The colts´ race, the Prix Greffulhe an hour later, looks a much better event. The Aga Khan´ s Vadamar (Alain de Royer-Dupré/ Christophe Lemaire) is apparently being aimed at the Epsom Derby, a race whch no French-trained runner has won for 35 years. A win today, when he will be assisted by his pacemaker Dildar (Thierry Jarnet), would put him firmly in the picture. Andre´ Fabre has won this 5 times in the last 6 years and now relies on Pour Moi (Mikael Barzalona), while Lustre (Yves de Nicolay/ Christophe Soumillon) and Maxios (Jonathan Pease/ Stephane Pasquier) look held on their latest form, but British challenger Questioning (John Gosden/ Peslier) definitely comes into the reckoning.
