Rest of Newmarket

The supporting card at Newmarket is also strong, featuring two group races. The Jockey Club Stakes over 1 1/2 miles at 15.30 CET has only 6 runners, but still looks very tricky. Godolphin´ s Campanologist (Saeed bin Suroor) is top-rated here, mainly as a result of his German Group One wins last summer. He last ran in the Melbourne Cup ? well beaten- and his trainer is not yet in form. James Given saddles two runners here, with Indian Days (Paul Hanagan), who won the John Porter at Newbury last time, carrying a 3 lbs penalty, so his other runner Dandino (Paul Mulrennan) is just preferred. However our choice is Laaheb (Roger Varian/ Richard Hills), who ran well in Dubai last time, is very consistent and has a good course record.

Several of the runners in the Palace House Stakes over 5 furlongs at 16.45 also ran at the Meydan meeting, notably Iver Bridge Lad (James Ryan/ Jimmy Quinn), who has been in great form in England this spring but possibly needs 6 furlongs, and Prohibit (Robert Cowell/ Dettori). Astrophysical Jet (Ed McMahon) was much improved last yr after being switche to the minimum distance and won 3 of his 4 races, while Borderlescott (Robin Bastiman/ Luke Morris) is another very consistent sort who has been placed in the last two runnings of this race. Sole Power (Eddie Lynam/ Wayne Lordan) was a 100/1 winner of the Nunthorpe last year, but that was possibly a fluke, while Arctic Fling (Richard Fahey/ Paul Hanagan), the only 3yo in the field, is very speedy and represents a team in top form. There are quite a few possibilities here, but Frankie has a good record when riding for Cowell and we make Prohibit our selection.

2. Race: Laaheb - Dandino - Campanologist
