All-weather racing today

There is all-weather racing this afternoon at Southwell and this evening at Kempton. The card at Southwell, where the first 5 races are all for 2yo´s, is very poor and all 8 races are class 5 or 6. Best bet here could be Queen of Cash (Hughie Morrison/ Robert Winston) in the 2yo handicap over 6 furlongs at 15.00 CET. After running up here, she was a good winner of a similar race at Kempton last week and should be able to defy a 6 lbs penalty.

The sport on offer at Kempton is better and Morrison can complete an acoss-the-card double with Valencha (Steve Drowne) in the 3yo handicap at 19.50. However the more intersting races come earlier. Godolphin won the 10 furlongs conditions race last year, and this time they have 2 of the 4 runners at 17.20. Ex-German Peligroso (Ted Durcan) has to give weight away all round, but should be up to the task, while stable companion Chock a Block (Richard Mullen) can follow him home. The two divisions of the 2yo maiden at 17.50 and 18.20 should be worth watching, with entries from several of the top stables, We hope that Godolphin can complete a double in the seond division with the well-bred debutant Jameel (bin Suroor/ Durcan), a colt by Monsun out of a classic-placed mare. Saeed bin Suroor has a 50% strike rate with his juvenile runners here this year.
