start of Ayr Gold Cup meeting

although autumn does not officially start until next week, there is certainly a whiff of autumn in the air today, with 8 races at all 5 meetings and most of them with large fields of mainly moderate performers. Most of the interest is centred on the first day of Ayr´s big Gold Cup meeting, but today´s card is very modest. The best race is the 10 furlongs handicap at 17.20 CET, which has only 8 runners but still looks very tricky. The two top-weights Bencoolen (David Nicholls/ Marc Geran) and Mirrored (David Allan/ David Allan) have been running without success in better company and we prefer to look lower down the weights. The likely favourite is Northside Prince (Alan Swinbank/ Peter Mcdonald)., who has won his last 3 races, two of them this CD, but our selection is Plaisterer (Chris Wall/ Seb Sanders), who won in good style at Epsom last time. Swinburn´s Silvertrees is a late withdrawal from the 2yo novice stakes at 16.20, which leaves only 4 runners. Three of them have sco red already, but the debutant A Southside Boy (Jim Goldie/ Joe Fanning) is an interesting German-bred runner, being by Samum.
