Deauville starts today

The big Deauville summer meeting starts today, when the main feature is a listed race over 3000 metres at 15.35 CET. Three of the 11 runners are trained in Germany - Tarkheena Prince (Christian von der Recke/ Christophe Soumillon), La Tournesol (Ralf Rohne/ Flavien Prat), of whom the last-named probably has the best chance, but they face a stiff task against the locals and also against English raider Swingkeel (John Dunlop/ Olivier Peslier). Best of the French should be Americain (Alain de Royer-Dupré/ Gerald Mossé ) but Watar (Freddie Head/ Davy Bonilla) could also be dangerous; he was a very promising young stayer in 2008 but has been off the track now for 21 months. If he is anywhere near his 2008 form, he could well win this.
