Flat racing at Goodwood and Ffos Las

Despite the attractions of Chester, some of the leading jockys are at Goodwood, notably Frankie Dettori, who should be in for a good afternoon. He has two rides for Godolphin, the debutant Signs in the Sand (by Cape Cross out of the German mare Gonfilia) in th 2yo maiden at 15.30 CET, and Nafura, who has top-weight in the handicap for 3yo fillies at 18.20, and both of them can score. He also partners Squall at 14.55 and Theology at 18.50 in maiden races for trainer Jeremy Noseda, and they also have good prospects. His other rides are Elliptical (Gerld Butler) in the conditions race at 16.00 and the German-bred Swordsman, who has top weight in the 2 mile handicap at 17.45. He is one of two ex-Christian von der Recke runners in this event, the other being Commemoration Day (Gary Moore/ George Baker); both could run well, however it is a tricky race, but we would surprised of Frankie does not go home without at least 3 winners to his name.

The card at Ffos Las this evening is less inspiring, but Mark Johnston sends two runners on the long journey from N. Yorkshire and both should run well - Opus Maximus at 20.30 and Skyfire (whose last run was too bad to be true) at 21.05; both are partnered by Greg Fairley.
