N.H. racing at Doncaster and Newbury

Nicky Henderson has a good record at Newbury and could well win the first two races this afternoon with the much-hyped newcomer Super Kenny in the 4yo hurdle at 15.10 and Chef Junior in the novice hurdle at 15.45, both with Barry Geraghty in the saddle. Sir Kenny was listed class on the flat in France last year, but will need to be smart to defeat Rougham (Philip Hobbs/ Richard Johnson), who has already shown decent form.

He also has good prospects in the handicap hurdle at 17.30 with top-weight Miss Sarenne, for whom the good claimer David Bass has been booked. She has easy last time winner Maraafeq (Venetia Williams/ Aidan Coleman) to beat, but with the ground now drying out, we are sceptical about these mudlarks who have dominated the past few weeks holding their form, and the same applies to Mister Quasimodo at 16.20 and Buffalo Bob at 16.55, where we prefer Chance du Roy and Sound Stage respectively.

At Doncaster there are 8 runners in the mares novice hurdle at 16.10, but on all known form it looks a straight match between Algralil (Donald McCain/ Tony McCoy) and Diklers Oscar (Keith and James Reveley), and the same goes for the following novice chase with My Moment (Henry Daly/ Andrew Tinkler) and Riguez Dancer (Fery Muirpohy/ Graham Lee). These all look promising, and even more so could be La Sarrazino (James Fanshawe/ Tony McCoy), who won off 88 on the flat and looks a good recruit to hurdling. She can take the mares handicap hurdle at 17.20, while Sagalyrique (Alan King/ Robert Thornton) could win the handicap chase at 17.55.
