Doncaster today

The second day of the Doncaster Lincoln meeting could well see trainer Richard Fahey (3 winners here yesterday) and his stable jockey Paul Hanagan (4 winners) back in the winners enclosure. In the main event, the Doncaster Shield over 1 1/2 miles at 16.35 CET, their candidate Furmigafelagiusta carries top weight, but is also top-rated. He has been off since July, and Record Breaker (Mark Johnston/ Richard Hills) , who ran a good race at Kempton recently, looks the danger. Hills is one of several jockeys in action here who were riding at Meydan last night. Another is William Buick, who won the Sheema Classic on Da re Mi, and he can score again for his new boss John Gosden on the well-bred debutant African Wave in the 10 furlongs maiden at 15.30. The danger here is Cultivar (Barry and Michael Hills), whose stable has taken this event 5 times in the last 8 years. Fahey and Hanagan also have good chances in the two top handicaps with Deadly Encounter over 7 furlongs at 16.00 and Kaldoun Kingdom over 6 furlongs at 17.10, although there are 19 runners in each with plenty of possibilities in two wide-open events.
