Wolverhampton today

With all N.H. racing off, the all-weather fixture at Wolverhampton is the only racing today, but the 8 races are all class 5 or 6, so there is very little in the way of good-class sport to expect. Possibly the most interesting event is the 8 1/2 furlongs maiden at 16.05 CET. 4 of the 9 runnrs are 3yo´s and as the older horses do not look up to much, we expect this age group to come out on top.

The Queen´s High Constable (Roger Charlton/ Martin Dwyer) was very heavily backed on his debut here a month ago (but not by the owner, we hope) but could only finish a close third. He can recover those losses today, but well-bred debutant Beyond (Jeremy Noseda/ Chris Catlin) could be a big danger.

Otherwise the two handicaps for 3yo´s are the best races. They go over 9 1/2 furlongs at 17.05, where Brooklands Boy (John Weymes/ Jimmy Quinn) has top weight. He won his only start, over this CD back in October, at 33-1, but we prefer the recent winners If I were a Boy (Silvester Kirk/ Lee Newnes) and Danger Mulally (Andrew Balding/ David Probert). The 7 furlongs race at 18.05 should lie between top-weight Blue Lyric (Luca Cumani Neil Callan) and Lisahane Bog (Paul Hedger/ Dane O´Neill), both currently on a roll with further improvement likely.
