Southwell today

with all jumps racing off, Southwell´s all-weather track offers the only British racing today, with 7 races, all class 5 or 6. Just like yesterday, the maiden race (this time for fillies over 6 furlongs at 14.10 CET) looks the most interesting event, and like yesterday we expect the 3yo´s in receipt of 16 lbs to come out on top. In fact it seems quite likely that the two youngest runners - Ambrogina (Marco Botti/ Jimmy Quinn) and Freddie´s Girl (Stef Liffiard/ Chris Catlin will take the first two places.
The best betting race is the 1 3/4 mile handicap at 15.40 with 13 runners. Dart (Sue Lamyman/ Robert Winston) has a huge weight here, but she is still the choice. A real course specialist, she has won twice over CD in the past fortnight and can complete a quick hat-trick. German-bred Bright Sparky (Mick Easterby/ James Sullivan) should be placed here. He was pulled up over fences last time, but on his previous start was only narrowly beaten by Russian Music (Ian Williams/ Stephen Donohoe), whom he mow meets on better terms.
The 3yo handicap over 6 furlongs at 16.40 should go to Knightfire (Walter Swinburn/ Adam Kirby), while Burasco (David Barron/ Phillip Makin), moving up in distance, has an obvious chance against CD specialist Hit the Switch (Pat Morris/ James Sullivan) in the mile handicap at 15.10. Easily the best horse running today, according to official ratings, is Dandy Nicholls´ Machinist (Andrew Mullen), who should in theory have little problem in winning the opening claimer over 6 furlongs at 13.40. However he has been off the track since May and this race is probably best left alone.

Betting forecast:
1. Race: Machinist - Stonecrabstomorrow - Peninsular War
2. Race: Ambrogina - Freddie`S Girl - Cross Section
3. Race: Obe Gold - Jonnie Skull - Elusive Warrior
4. Race: Hit The Switch - Borasco - West End Lad
5. Race: Dart - Russian Music - Aleron
6. Race: Silken Promise - Moonshine Creek - Eightdaysaweek
7. Race: Knightfire - The Love Guru - Whitby
