Goodwood, Lingfield (a.w.) and Ffos Las (N.H.)

The flat season is drawing to a close and after Ascot staged its last flat meeting of the year yesterday, it is today the turn of Goodwood to stage its 2009 finale. Although the fields are quite big, the card is however not very classy, and the best race is the 6 furlongs handicap at 16.10 CET. With 15 runners, this is the usual puzzle, but We Have a Dream (Willie Muir/ Darryll Holland), first or second on all his last 5 starts, is an obvious possibility; Son of the Cat (Brian Gubby/ John Fahy) and Viking Spirit (Walter Swinburn/ Eddie Ahern) are just two of many dangers. The 2 mile race for N.H. jockeys which opens the card at 15.00 is always popular and ex-German Swordsman (Charlie Gordon/ Colin Bolger) probably has as good a chance as any. The other flat meeting is on the all-weather at Lingfield, and Seb Sanders looks the jockey to follow there. He should certainly win the 2yo maiden at 15.25 on Ralph Beckett´s Admin and also has good chances with Sir Mark Prescott´s Pres cription at 16.35, Heather Dalton´s Bee Stinger at 17.10 and Lady Herries´ Bell Island at 17.45. There is also jumps racing at Ffos Las, but with the ground still riding firm, the fields are mainly small. The handicap hurdle at 17.30 is the best race and looks very competitive. Dancewiththedevil (Chris Roberts/ Dave Devereux) holds Treaty Flyer (Alison Thorpe/ Johnny Farrelly) on earlier form, but the latter has since won twice in good style; Philip Hobbs´ pair, German-bred Oldrik (Richard Johnson) and bottom-weight Spanish Conquest (Rhys Flint) are the main dangers to this pair.
