German runners at Longchamp

A mammoth card at Longchamp today with 9 races, including one for non-thoroughbreds and two for Arab-breds. There are only 2 German-trained runners today and both face stiff tasks. El Vettorio (Christian Sprengel/ Adrie de Vries) runs in the opening tiercé handicap over 1400 metres at 13.40; he is a ganuine and consistent performer, but this looks a very difficult race. Mario Hofer has a better chance with Principe Uromonte (Gerald Mosse) in a claiming race for 3yo´s over 1700 metres at 16.40, but he has to concede weight all round, which is never easy. News of top French jockey Christophe Soumillon, who took a terrible fall yesterday at Nancy, is that he has broken his elbow; he was operated on last night and is in good spirits, but will be out of action for several weeks and will definitely miss the Arc meeting.
