Doncaster St. Leger meeting: day two

Today´s Doncaster card is much stronger than yesterday´s and the main event is the Group Two Park Hill Stakes at 16.45; run over the St. Leger distance of 1 3/4 miles, this is the fillies equivalent, although older mares are also now eligible to run, and in fact only 3 of the 11 runners are 3yo´s. Best of them should be the Aga Khan´s Tanoura (John Oxx/ Mick Kinane), who won at York last time. However the same owner´s Shemima, trained in France by Alain de Royer-Dupré, carries his first colours; in place of the injured Christophe Soumillon, who broke his elbow in a nasty fall at Nancy yesterday, she will be partnered by Tom Queally, whose original mount Sevenna is a non-runner.

Clowance, fourth in the Oaks last year, is also a non-runner, and the main danger to the Aga Khan runners could be the top Irish N.H. performer Sesenta (Willie Mullins/ Kieren Fallon), who won the Ebor last time out. However Fallon fares here, he should certainly win the listed race for fillies at 17.50 on Luca Cumani´s Fantasia. She trvalled badly when baten in the two French classics on her last two runs, but has severalpoiunds in hand of this opposition. The most valuable race of the day is the 6 1/2 furlongs sales race for 2yo´s at 16.10. With 300,000 GBP in prize-money, this has attracted a maximum field of 22, with Mark Johnston (5 runners), Richard Fahey (4) and Richard Hannon (3) accounting for more than half the field. However the winner should be the one-trick trainer William Haggas´ Taajub (Richard Hills), whose second place in the Gimcrack is easily the best form on offer.
