two group races at Newbury

a strong card at Newbury this afternoon, featuring two group races, and it would come as no surprise were Godolphin and Frankie Dettori to win them both. The stable is now in red-hot form and won 6 races yesterday, with Frankie partnering 5 of them. In the Geoffry Freer Staks over 1 mile 5 furlongs at 15.35 their candidate is Kite Wood, the only 3yo in the field and regarded as their main St. Leger hope. The main danger is Mouriyan (Gary and Ryan Moore) a good runner-up to Schiaparelli at Goodwood, but Godolphins second string Age of Reason (Ted Durcan) could also run well. In the Hungerford Stakes over 7 furlongs at 16.10 Evasive carries the blue colours for the first time, having been bought out of Sir Michael Stoute´s stable after his fourth place in the St. James´s Palace Stakes; earlier he was 6th in the 2,000 Guineas, and a reproduction of either of those form lines would suffice here. We expect front-runner Plum Pudding (Richard Hannon/ Richard Hughes) to be the main d anger, even though he is moving up sharply in grade after putting up one of the best handicap performances of the year at Newmarket last time. With the Godolphin 2yo´s in particular running so well, we expect to see Love and Devotion win the opening race for maiden fillies at 14.30, but their are no runners for the stable in the listed race for 2yo´s at 15.05, which can be fought out by Azmeel (John Gosden/ Ryan Moore) and Blakeys Boy (John Dunlop/ Ted Durcan), both easy winners of their only race so far.
