Southwell (all-weather) and Sedgefield (N.H.) today

Only two very poor cards this afternoon, with the jumps meeting at Sedgefield slightly more interesting than a miserable all-weather card at Southwell. Two interesting German-bred runners at Sedgefield are Andorn (Peter Kirby/ Phil Kinsella) in the opening novice hurdle at 15.15 CET and Safin (Roger Curtis/ Mark Bradburne) in the selling hurdle half an hour later. Andorn was a listed winner at Baden-Baden two years ago, but has shown little since his transfer to England; however he would not need to be anything special to win on his hurdles debut. Opatja and recent flat winner Don Pietro rate the main dangers. Safin is very inconsistent, but certainly capable of winning at this level on a good day. Best bet on the card in our view is My Condor (Donald McCain/ Jason Maguire) in the 2 mile handicap chase at 16.15. At Southwell the most interesting race is the 2yo maiden at 16.00 with runners from several top stables, including Godolphin´ s debutant Prince of Vasa (Ted Durcan). Wizh th yard going well, he can possibly see off the Johnston, Cole and Hills runners.
