Newbury, Newcastle and Nottingham

This afternoon´s best racing comes from Newbury, where the main feature is the listed St. Hugh´s Stakes over 5 furlongs for 2yo fillies at 16.30 CET. Plenty of runners looking for black type here, but the obvious candidates are Sand Vixen (Saeed bin Suroor/ Frankie Dettori), third in a Group Three at Ascot last time, Shamandar (William Haggas/ Kirsty Milczarek), runner-up to the smart Monsieur Chevalier in the Super Sprint over this CD last time, and Absolute Music (Robert Cowell/ Steve Drowne), runner-up in a listed race at Vichy. Dettori can also take the stayers handicap at 15.55 on the useful hurdler Bureaucrat for Philip Hobbs, where the lightly-weighted Toujours Souriante (Mark Johnston/ Louis-Philippe Beuzelin) looks a threat. Getcarter (Richard Hannon/ Richard Hughes), an easy winner Salisbury on Wednesday, attempts a quick follow-up in the 3yo handicap over 6 furlongs at 17.05, but may find top-weight Rapid Water (Andrew Balding/ Liam Keniry) too strong. Freddie Tyli cki is on a roll at the moment, and should be among the winners at Newcastle, where he has a full book of rides; Captain Macarry at 16.50, Dark Moment at 17.55 and Corton Charlemagne at 18.30, all last-time-out winners, look his best chances. The best race at Nottingham is the fillies handicap over 10 furlongs at 16.45. This looks wide open, and 7 of the 9 runners finished first or second last time out. Stan´s Cool Cat (Paul Cole/ Jimmy Quinn) beat Accede (Johnny Portman/ Pat Cosgrave) by a head at Newbury last time, but the placings may be reversed this time.
