German runners in France today

Deauville stages two group three races today, the Prix Minerve over 2500 metres for 3yo fillies at 15.25 and the Prix de Lieurey over a mile an hour later. Although there are no German-trained runners in either of these events, there could well be a German winner as Gestüt Schlenderhan´s Kalla (Andre´ Fabre/ Maxime Guyon) has an obvious chance in the Minerve. The Lieuerey could go to locally-trained Soneva (Yves de Nicolay/ Christophe Soumillon). There are no fewer than 4 German runners among the 16 entries for the 1500 metres claimer on fibregrass at 16.55: El Vettorio (Christian Sprengel/ Soumillon), Fighting Johan (Jean-Pierre Carvalho/ Christophe Lemaire), Royal Pepper (Mario Hofer/ Gerald Mossé) and Sachsengold (Sascha Smcrzek/ Henk Grewe). This race has a very strong field for a "reclamer" but we expect the Germans, in particular El Vettori, to figure prominently. Smcrcek and Grewe are also represented by the 2yo Otou at 15.55. There are also several German runners at t he evening meeting at Moulins, where Werner Hefter saddles 4 runners, Ralf Rohne and Waldemar Himmel 3 each and the lovely Nina one.
