Lingfield (a.w.) and Newton Abbot (N.H.)

Again a wintry look to British racing this afternoon, with only a poor card on the all-weather at Lingfield and jumping at Newton Abbot. At Lingfield, the most interesting event could be the 6 furlongs race for 2yo maiden fillies at 16.30. As none of the 5 entries that have already run have shown much ability, the four debutants should be the ones on which to concentrate, and with the Godolphin stable now in top gear, their two runners Tia Juana (Frankie Dettori) and La Ville Lumiere (Royston French) could well take the first two places. Frankie has just other ride here, Ray of Joy for John Jenkins in the handicap over the same trip half an hour later, but this looks a very tricky race, and we prefer Prescription (Sir Mark Prescott/ Seb Sanders), from another stable now in good form, and the two Boyle-trained runners Al Gillani (George Baker) and Ravi River (Pat Cosgrave). Tim Vaughan and Richard Johnson could be the team to follow at Newton Abbot, and have chances with Roman tic Bridge in the handicap hurdle over 3 miles 3 furlongs at 16.45 and Little Firecracker over 2 3/4 miles half an hour later. However there are large fields in both these races with many possibilities. A safer bet could be Star of Germany, a very easy winner last time out, in the 2 mile handicap chase at 15.15.
