Pontefract and Wolverhampton

Tuesday is often the weakest day of the week for decent racing in the U.K., and today is no exception. Easily the best race is the 6 furlongs handicap at 17.30 CET at Pontefract, which looks wide open. No fewer than 7 of the 15 runners are last-time-out winners, including leading fancies Eton Rifles( Howard Johnson/ Paul Mulrennan) Johannes (Richard Fahey/ Freddie Tylicki) and Novellen Lad (Eric Alston/ David Allan) but it would be nice to see course specialist Mr. Wolf (David Barker/ Tony Hamilton), who has already won 7 times here, score again at his favourite track. There are a couple of interesting runners in the 10 furlongs maiden here at 16.00; Dove (John Gosden/ Jimmy Fortune) was once a Godolphin hope, but has been off the track for nearly 2 years and now makes his first appearance for his new trainer, however on recent form Laughing Boy (Luca Cumani/ Jamie Spencer), a close fourth in his recent debut at Sandown, looks the one to beat.

On the all-weather at Wolverhampton, Ryan Moore - not a frequent visitor here - can land a double with Beauchamp Victory, who stands out on ratings in the 9 furlongs seller at 15.45, and Simon Callaghan´s Art Jewel at 16.45, while Ed Dunlop´s Red Cadeaux (Seb Sanders), an easy CD winner last week, can follow up under a penalty in the 1 1/2 miles handicap an hour later.
