Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh

2yo´s take centre stage at the Curragh today, where the going is expected to be very soft. Main event is the Group One Phoenix Stakes over 6 furlongs at 16.40 CET. Aidan O´Brien has monopolised this event in recent years,m winning 9 of the last 11 runnings, and has 4 of the 8 runners in his attempt to score for the 10th time. Stable jockey Johnny Murtagh partners his best chance Alfred Nobel, but he may meet his match here in the shape of the smart unbeaten filly Walk on Bye (Tommy Stack/ Wayne Lordan). The listed race over 5 furlongs at 15.40 is also for 2yo´s and this could also go to a filly - Velvet Flicker (Kevin Prendergast/ Declan McDonogh), who is dropping in class and distance. The other big race at the Curragh is the listed fillies race over 6 furlongs at 16.10. Stack and Mordan have another chance here with top-weight Aine, but our selection is the sole British runner Swiss Diva (David Elsworth/ Pat Smullen).

Betting forecast:
1. Race: Master Marvel - Amana - Florimund
2. Race: Dream Deer - Velvet Flicker - Arctic
3. Race: Choose Me - Aine - Chatline
4. Race: Alfred Nobel - In Some Respect - Beethoven
5. Race: Fit The Cove - Majestic Times - Pax Soprana
6. Race: Signore Momento - Dasha - Long Wait
7. Race: Irish Reel - Runaway Rose - Strandhill
