Newmarket July meeting: day two

Newmarket´s July meeting continues today with another excellent card featuring 3 group races and starting with the Bahrain Trophy over 1 mile 5 furlongs for 3yo´s at 14.30 CET. The interesting one here is Godolphin´s Kite Wood (Saeed bin Suroor/ Frankie Dettori), who had no chance in the Derby but obviously meets weaker opposition now. The Queen´s Free Agent (Richard Hannon/ Ryan Moore) and Popmurphy (Karl Burke/ Jim Crowley) both ran respectably, although unplaced, at Royal Ascot, and look the dangers. It could be a big day for Godolphin who also go double-handed and with good chances in the Princess of Wales´s Stakes over 1 1/2 miles at 16.10. Frankie has chosn to partner Campanologist, who ran a fine race in the Hardwicke at Royal Áscot, and should certainly hold Dr. Fremantle on that form, but German interest will be centred on Schiaparelli (Ted Durcan), who has not run since last year´s "Arc" but of course won the Deutsches Derby for Peter Schiergen in 2006.

John Gosden, also with 2 runners, provides the main threat, and especially Duncan (Jimmy Fortune) a close 4th in the Coronation Cup, looks a serious danger. The headline race of the day is the July Stakes, a Group Two race for 2yo´s over 6 furlongs at 15.00. Tom Dascombe announced his arrival in the big time by winning this last year with Classic Blade and can now follow up with Orpen Grey (Richard Kingscote), who has very similar form. Most of the others ran at Royal Ascot, notably Red Jazz (Barry and Michael Hills) and Nosedive (William Haggas/ Ryan Moore), who both looked a bit unlucky there and should run much better this time.

Betting forecast:
1. Race: Kite Wood - Dhushan - Too Much Trouble
2. Race: Orpen Grey - Arcano - Red Jazz
3. Race: Class Is Class - Firebet - Aqwaal
4. Race: Duncan - Campanologist - All The Aces
5. Race: Lady Pattern - Sabii Sands - Navajo Chief
6. Race: Cloudy Start - Derbaas - Spring Of Fame
7. Race: Green Beret - Canadian Danehill - Blue Jack
