Glorious Goodwood: fourth day

the Glorious Goodwood meeting continues with another fine card, but after yesterday´s heavy showers (and possibly some more this afternoon) the going will be much easier. There also appears to be a clear draw bias, with low numbers (stands side) favoured strongly in sprints on the straight course and high numbers (inside) in races on the round course. Main feature today is the Group Two Richmond Stakes for 2yo´s over 6 furlongs at 17.00; with only 10 runners, the draw here should be less important. The only unbeaten runner, Dick Turpin (Richard Hannon/ Richard Hughes) has an obvious chance, but our fancy is Rakaan (Brian Meehan/ Jamie Spencer), whose third place in the Coventry at Royal Ascot is good form. Penny´s Gift (Hannon/ Hughes) can give German form a boost by winning the Group Three Oak Tree Stakes for fillies over 7 furlongs at 18.10. She finished a respectable fifth last time in the Falmouth Stakes (Group One) - San Sicharia 6th and Cosmopolitan well behind- but bef ore that had won the German 1,000 Guineas in good style. The Queen´s Golden Stream (Sir Michael Stoute/ Ryan Moore), who won a listed race at Warwick last time, is the main danger. The group race for older horses over 1 1/2 miles that opens proceedings at 15.10 looks booked for Godolphin, with Crime Scene (Frankie Dettori) and Age of Reason (Ted Durcan) the two highest-rated runners, with Warringah (Stoute/ Moore) next best. As usual, the handicaps look ferociously difficult with huge fields and the draw a complicating factor. Our short list for the 6 furlongs race at 15.45 includes two David Nicholls runners Parisian Pyramid (son Adrian in the saddle) and Indian Trail (Dettori) and two trained by Richard Fahey, Steelcut (Royston ffrench) and Harrison George (Moore). The mile race at 16.25 is even hotter; our main hopes Lovelace (Mark Johnston/ Jamie Spencer), Dubais Touch (Johnson/ Ffrench) and Acrostic (Luca Cumani/ Christophe Lemaire) are all badly drawn, so we shall take the two drawn on the rail, Vitznau (Hannon/ Hughes) and Cloudy Start (Henry Cecil/ Tom Queally).

Betting forecast:
1. Race: Crime Scene - Warringah - Drumfire
2. Race: Northern Dare - Everymanforhimself - Sunrise Safari
3. Race: Acrostic - Cloudy Start - Extraterrestrial
4. Race: Showcasing - Dick Turpin - Rakaan
5. Race: Black Snowflake - Gunner Lindley - Suffolk Punch
6. Race: Golden Stream - Penny`s Gift - Cosmopolitan
7. Race: Strictly - Green Beret - Master Of Disguise
